How not to get rich with AI

Yes, exactly. How not to get rich.

In a burst of unwarranted hope, I decided to believe it was possible to use AI to generate passive income. We've all read some flashy article titled 'Make 200,000 euros by investing 7.50 euros in the stock market thanks to ChatGPT'. So I thought: if Joe, an average citizen from New York, can do it, why can't I?

I threw myself headfirst into the project (spending, or rather wasting, quite a few evenings) and started doing research.

How do you trade? Where do you even start?

I started studying the strategies (I won't list them because there are so many) for recognizing a market signal, the ones for maximizing profit on an open position (Trail Following, ATR Trailing, etc.) and the ones for minimizing losses (Stop Loss, various Kill Switches).

While studying all this, I started building a Python prototype that, with the help of Claude Code, incorporated all these automated techniques.

My idea was simple: generate signals that identified profit opportunities, pass everything to the AI which would decide whether or not to follow one of these signals.

Then I moved on to choosing the market and the platform. Almost all platforms don't allow trading from Italy (Binance for example). Hyperliquid does. So I transferred my funds to Binance, then from Binance to Metamask and from Metamask to Hyperliquid. And just to do all this shuffling, a few pennies in fees are already gone.

At that point, everything was in place. My 100 euros were ready to churn out 2% a day. In my Excel spreadsheet, they had already turned into a few hundred thousand within a year.

Then I crashed into the bitter truth - which I perhaps already knew: the world isn't that simple, because if it were, quite a few of my colleagues would be filthy rich. The bot worked, it invested, it cashed out when profit was certain and closed positions going against the trend before they lost too much. But it wasn't enough. Despite some spectacular jumps where it managed to bring home as much as 10 dollars on a single transaction, all the small losing trades kept it right there, at break-even if not at a slight loss.

What can I say, I gave it a shot. The bot isn't even that bad, you can find it at this link https://github.com/nahime0/hyperliquid-bot.
